Project Profile

Michuda Construction successfully completed the Bi-Plane and Cath Lab Renovation at Advocate Aurora Health’s Condell Medical Center, transforming approximately 6,500 square feet into a state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment space. This project was designed to advance cardiovascular care and interventional radiology services, allowing the facility to provide more efficient and high-quality patient care.

PROJECT SCOPE

Michuda Construction successfully completed the Bi-Plane and Cath Lab Renovation at Advocate Aurora Health’s Condell Medical Center, transforming approximately 6,500 square feet into a state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment space. This project was designed to advance cardiovascular care and interventional radiology services, allowing the facility to provide more efficient and high-quality patient care.

The scope of work included the gut renovation of existing lab areas, installation of specialized medical gas systems, advanced MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) infrastructure, and integration of cutting-edge Bi-Plane and Cath Lab equipment. Additional spaces such as control rooms, patient prep areas, and recovery rooms were also upgraded to support the operational needs of the labs. Each area was designed to prioritize patient flow, enhance safety, and support the advanced imaging and treatment technology required for cardiovascular and interventional radiology procedures.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS

Renovating the Bi-Plane and Cath Lab at an active medical center presented logistical and operational challenges that Michuda Construction addressed through proactive planning and targeted solutions:

  • Maintaining Operations in a Live Environment:Working within an operational hospital required a focused approach to safety and disruption control. Michuda implemented ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment) measures and scheduled high-impact work during off-hours and weekends to minimize disruptions to adjacent hospital departments and maintain patient safety.

  • Coordinating Complex MEP Upgrades:The installation of new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to support high-powered medical equipment was a critical component of the project. Michuda collaborated with the facility’s engineering team to conduct MEP shutdowns in a phased manner, ensuring that the upgrades were completed without impacting other departments.

  • Precision in Equipment Integration:Installing Bi-Plane and Cath Lab equipment required precise coordination and handling. Michuda coordinated with equipment vendors to ensure seamless installation, verifying structural support and alignment to meet strict equipment specifications.

  • Space Constraints and Staging in a Limited Area:Due to the restricted space within the facility, Michuda established a remote staging area for materials and utilized a “Just in Time” delivery approach to keep the jobsite organized and prevent congestion. This approach also facilitated a clean and efficient workspace, reducing the risk of safety hazards in a sensitive medical environment.
