Project Profile
Michuda Construction, Inc. served as the Construction Manager at Risk for the construction of a new 37,000-square-foot, 2-story school on Chicago's South Side. The structure combines masonry and steel framing, providing a durable and adaptable space for elementary education.

Key components of the project included:
New Dining Room and Kitchen: The facility features a full-service dining room and kitchen to support daily meal services for students.
Classrooms and Specialty Spaces: The school includes 9 new classrooms, a music room, and administrative offices to serve both students and staff.
Recreational Facilities: A running track and playground were incorporated into the design to promote physical activity and outdoor play.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
Tight Urban Site: Managing construction in a dense urban neighborhood required strategic site logistics and careful coordination of deliveries to minimize disruption to the surrounding community.
Phased Construction for Occupied Campus: With existing facilities nearby, Michuda coordinated a phased construction plan to ensure safety and continuity during school operations.
OUTCOME
The completion of John D. Shoop Elementary School provided a modern, well-equipped educational facility for Chicago’s South Side.
