PROJECT OUTCOME Michuda Construction served as the General Contractor for the Howe Development Center, a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide residential and therapeutic services for individuals with developmental disabilities. This new construction project emphasized durability, functionality, and a welcoming environment, supporting both residents and staff with high-quality infrastructure.

PROJECT SCOPE The project spanned approximately 150,000 square feet and included the following key elements:

  • Residential Units: Construction of fully accessible residential wings equipped with modern amenities, private rooms, and shared community spaces to support a home-like atmosphere.

  • Therapeutic and Medical Spaces: Development of therapy rooms, examination rooms, and a small medical suite to provide onsite care and rehabilitation services.

  • Educational Facilities: Dedicated classrooms and vocational training spaces designed to enhance skill development and learning opportunities.

  • Common Areas: Creation of spacious dining halls, recreational areas, and gathering spaces to foster community engagement and social interaction.

  • Mechanical and Utility Infrastructure: Installation of advanced mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems to ensure efficiency, safety, and long-term performance.

  • Outdoor Amenities: Landscaped courtyards, walking paths, and recreational areas for residents to enjoy outdoor activities.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS

  • Accessibility Compliance: Michuda worked closely with state agencies to ensure the facility met all ADA guidelines, including accessible entrances, restrooms, and pathways.
