PROJECT OUTCOME

Michuda Construction is leading the system-wide nurse call upgrade for Advocate Aurora Health, enhancing patient care and communication capabilities across multiple sites. The upgrades, featuring the installation of the Rauland Responder 5 system, are being executed in multiple phases from 2022 through 2024, ensuring minimal disruption to hospital operations while providing state-of-the-art technology to patient care environments.

PROJECT SCOPE

Michuda Construction is serving as the Construction Manager at Risk for the system-wide upgrade of the nurse call systems across Advocate Aurora Health facilities. The project focuses on improving patient communication and responsiveness by upgrading to the Rauland Responder 5 system, a state-of-the-art nurse call solution.

The scope of work includes:

  • Coordination with Low Voltage Vendors: Collaborating with specialized low voltage vendors to ensure proper integration and functionality of the new system.

  • ICRA Barriers: Installation and maintenance of Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) barriers to protect patients and staff during construction activities, adhering to stringent infection control standards.

  • Device Removal and Replacement: Systematic removal and replacement of nurse call devices from patient headwalls, ensuring a seamless transition to the new technology.

  • Phased Implementation: Conducting the upgrades in multiple phases over a three-year period (2022-2024) to minimize disruption and maintain hospital operations.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS

The project’s complexity required tailored strategies to address its challenges effectively:

  1. Occupied Facility Coordination:Performing upgrades within active hospital environments demanded detailed planning and collaboration with hospital staff to minimize disruptions. Michuda scheduled activities during off-peak hours and implemented ICRA barriers to protect patient safety.

  2. Phased Implementation:Upgrading multiple sites across the system required a phased approach. Michuda’s team developed and adhered to a strategic timeline to ensure each site’s needs were met without impacting overall hospital functions.

  3. Vendor Coordination:Close coordination with low voltage vendors was critical for the successful integration of the Rauland Responder 5 system. Michuda worked collaboratively to ensure all installations were conducted seamlessly, meeting system specifications and operational requirements.

KEY PROJECT ELEMENTS

  • Enhanced Patient Care: Installation of the Rauland Responder 5 system to improve nurse-patient communication and responsiveness.

  • Infection Control: Implementation of ICRA barriers to ensure patient and staff safety during the upgrade process.

  • Phased Upgrades Across Multiple Sites: Strategic planning and coordination to minimize disruption while achieving system-wide improvements.
