PROJECT OUTCOME
Michuda Construction successfully renovated the Interventional Radiology (IR) Bi-Plane Suite within Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, transforming an outdated space into a state-of-the-art medical facility. The project was completed in a fully operational radiology department, requiring careful planning, execution, and collaboration to minimize disruptions.
PROJECT SCOPE
The project involved the complete gut renovation of two old imaging rooms and adjacent spaces to create a cutting-edge IR Bi-Plane Suite, recovery room, staff lockers, and restrooms. The surrounding radiology department, including two existing X-Ray Rooms, an MRI, and an active Bi-Plane Suite, remained operational throughout construction, necessitating strict infection control measures and meticulous scheduling.
Key Elements of the Project:
Comprehensive Renovation: Full demolition and rebuild of imaging rooms, emergency egress corridors, staff areas, and locker rooms originally built in 1970.
Infrastructure Upgrades: Installation of new HVAC, medical gas systems, plumbing, and electrical infrastructure to meet the suite’s technical requirements.
Specialized Structural Work: Integration of Unistrut supports for medical equipment and a gas boom, ensuring precise functionality for the Bi-Plane system.
High-Quality Finishes: New framing, ceilings, and finishes, creating a modern and efficient clinical environment.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
Occupied Facility Coordination:
Challenge: Renovating a space surrounded by operational imaging rooms and critical hospital functions.
Solution: Implemented a detailed phased construction plan, scheduled off-hour system shutdowns, and maintained constant communication with hospital facilities and department staff.
Infection Control:
Challenge: Ensuring patient safety and maintaining a sterile environment during construction.
Solution: Deployed strict infection prevention measures, including temporary partitions, negative air pressure systems, and daily cleaning protocols.
System Integration:
Challenge: Coordinating multiple building-wide shutdowns to accommodate new MEP installations.
Solution: Onsite supervision ensured precise scheduling and minimized impacts to hospital operations.
Michuda Construction delivered a world-class IR Bi-Plane Suite that enhances patient care and supports the hospital’s advanced radiology capabilities, showcasing Michuda’s expertise in healthcare infrastructure projects.
