PROJECT SCOPE
Michuda Construction successfully completed the Cath-EP Lab Renovation at Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital, a project designed to upgrade cardiovascular care capabilities. The renovation encompassed approximately 5,000 square feet, transforming the existing space into a state-of-the-art Cath-EP Lab focused on improving patient outcomes and supporting cutting-edge medical procedures.
The scope of work included the complete gut renovation of the existing lab space, installation of new MEP systems, upgraded medical gas lines, and integration of specialized equipment to support catheterization and electrophysiology procedures. The renovation also featured enhanced patient and staff areas, a new control room, and updated finishes to create a clean and efficient environment.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
The Cath-EP Lab renovation presented several challenges that required strategic planning and solutions:
Maintaining Hospital Operations: As a critical healthcare facility, maintaining uninterrupted patient care during construction was a top priority. Michuda implemented ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment) measures and scheduled off-hour work shiftsto minimize disruptions, ensuring patient safety and continuity of services.
Complex MEP Integration: The installation of new MEP systems, including medical gases and electrical upgrades, required precise coordination to avoid impacting other hospital operations. Michuda’s team worked closely with hospital facilities to plan MEP shutdowns, ensuring efficient integration and minimal downtime.
Limited Access in an Active Hospital: Given the lab’s location within an active hospital, material deliveries and equipment staging required careful coordination. Michuda established a designated staging area and utilized a “Just in Time” delivery approach to maintain a clean and organized jobsite.
