Creating a Modern CT Imaging Environment Inside an Active Hospital

Healthcare imaging renovations demand more than high-quality construction. They require careful integration of sophisticated medical equipment, building infrastructure, clinical workflow, infection prevention requirements, and ongoing hospital operations.

For this project, Michuda Construction converted existing locker room and office space into a modern CT imaging environment supporting both the scanner itself and the patient experience surrounding it.

The completed space includes a dedicated CT Scan Room, patient preparation and recovery areas, clinical support spaces, upgraded building systems, and durable healthcare-grade finishes designed for the demands of a high-traffic hospital environment.

The result is a highly functional diagnostic imaging suite that improves the environment for clinicians and patients while integrating seamlessly into the existing hospital.

Project Scope

Michuda Construction served as Construction Manager at Risk, coordinating demolition, infrastructure improvements, medical equipment relocation, interior construction, and final turnover within the occupied healthcare environment.

Selective Demolition + Space Reconfiguration

Existing locker rooms and office areas were selectively demolished and reconfigured to create the footprint required for the new CT Scan Suite and associated patient support spaces.

Working inside an operating hospital required disciplined containment, logistics planning, sequencing, and coordination so construction activity could proceed without compromising surrounding clinical operations.

CT Scan Suite Construction

The new imaging suite was constructed around the operational requirements of modern CT technology while also prioritizing patient comfort and staff workflow.

The renovated area incorporates the CT Scan Room along with adjacent preparation and recovery spaces, creating a cohesive clinical environment supporting patients throughout the imaging process.

Medical Equipment Relocation

A major component of the project involved coordinating the relocation and installation of an existing CT scanner from a lower level of the hospital into the new suite.

Medical imaging equipment relocation requires careful coordination between the construction team, hospital representatives, equipment specialists, engineers, and trade partners. Building infrastructure must be completed and verified before installation while equipment access, sequencing, and commissioning activities are integrated into the overall project schedule.

Michuda managed the construction surrounding that process to ensure the new space was prepared for successful equipment installation and activation.

MEP + Healthcare Infrastructure

New mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems were installed to support the CT equipment, patient care functions, and clinical operations within the renovated suite.

The work required careful integration with existing hospital infrastructure—one of the most technically sensitive aspects of renovation work within an operating healthcare facility.

Coordination of these systems was critical not only to the performance of the imaging equipment but also to the reliability and long-term maintainability of the completed environment.

Healthcare-Grade Interior Finishes

The finished suite incorporates new millwork, ceilings, flooring, wall protection, and interior finishes selected to withstand the demands of a high-traffic clinical environment.

The completed interiors balance durability, maintainability, patient comfort, and the clean aesthetic expected of a modern hospital imaging department.

Building Within an Occupied Healthcare Environment

The technical construction was only one part of the assignment.

The project was delivered while the surrounding hospital remained operational, requiring construction activities to coexist with patient care and daily clinical workflows.

Michuda's healthcare construction team planned work around the realities of an occupied medical campus, coordinating access, demolition, infrastructure work, equipment installation, and interior construction so the hospital could continue functioning throughout the project. The original project profile specifically identifies maintaining uninterrupted operations as a fundamental requirement of the work.
