PROJECT OUTCOME

The completion of the Emergency Department CT and X-ray Renovation at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center has significantly enhanced the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities within its emergency services. The upgraded facilities now support rapid imaging and efficient patient flow, ensuring timely and accurate diagnostics in a critical care setting.

PROJECT SCOPE

Michuda Construction provided Construction Management at Risk services for the renovation of the CT and X-Ray areas within the Emergency Department. This 5,000-square-foot project was designed to modernize imaging facilities, improving the speed and accuracy of emergency diagnostics to enhance patient outcomes.

The scope of work included:

  • Demolition and Preparation of Existing Space: Complete removal of outdated imaging infrastructure, preparing the space for the installation of new equipment.

  • Installation of State-of-the-Art CT and X-Ray Equipment: Integration of advanced CT and X-ray units to provide high-resolution imaging capabilities, essential for emergency diagnostics.

  • Infrastructure Enhancements: Upgrades to MEP systems to support the new imaging technology, including modifications to electrical, HVAC, and medical gas systems tailored for high-demand diagnostic equipment.

  • Patient-Centered Layout and Design: Reconfiguration of the space to optimize patient flow and accessibility, ensuring efficient transitions between treatment and imaging.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS

The Emergency Department CT and X-Ray Renovation posed specific challenges, which Michuda addressed with tailored solutions:

  1. Maintaining Emergency Department Operations:Working within an active emergency department required careful coordination. Michuda scheduled construction phases to align with low-traffic hours and implemented infection control protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.

  2. Installation of High-Load Imaging Equipment:The integration of CT and X-ray machines required precise planning for equipment placement and support systems. Michuda collaborated with equipment vendors to ensure alignment with structural and MEP requirements, allowing seamless installation and operation.

  3. Space Constraints and Workflow Optimization:The renovation required optimizing space for efficient patient flow in a compact environment. Michuda worked closely with the design team to configure the space to enhance access and usability, aligning with emergency department workflow needs.

KEY PROJECT ELEMENTS
