PROJECT OUTCOME

The successful renovation of the EP Stereotaxis Lab at Advocate Christ Medical Center provided a state-of-the-art space equipped to support advanced electrophysiology procedures. Michuda Construction’s focused approach ensured precise equipment installation and a seamless upgrade, enhancing the lab’s capabilities for precise cardiac treatment.

PROJECT SCOPE

Michuda Construction provided Construction Management at Risk services for the transformation of the EP Stereotaxis Lab. This renovation included full demolition of the existing electrophysiology lab, installation of advanced equipment, and integration of specialized infrastructure to support stereotaxis procedures.

The scope of work included:

  • Complete Demolition of Existing Lab Space: Removal of outdated equipment and full demolition of the lab, preparing the space for new stereotaxis technology and structural enhancements.

  • Upgraded Electrical and Mechanical Services: Installation of advanced electrical and mechanical systems to support the high-power requirements of the stereotaxis equipment, ensuring consistent, reliable operation.

  • RF Shielding Installation: Addition of RF lead wall shielding to protect sensitive equipment from external interference, maintaining precision and safety in procedures.

  • Structural Steel Floor Construction: Reinforcement of the floor with structural steel to support two 4,000-pound magnets at the procedure table, ensuring stability and compliance with equipment specifications.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS

The renovation of the EP Stereotaxis Lab required meticulous planning and specialized solutions to address the technical demands of the space:

  1. Precision Equipment Installation: The stereotaxis equipment required specific placement and structural support. Michuda collaborated with equipment vendors to ensure precise installation and alignment, meeting all operational requirements.

  2. Specialized RF Shielding: The addition of RF shielding was essential to protect the lab’s sensitive equipment. Michuda worked closely with shielding contractors to ensure proper installation and performance, maintaining the lab’s high safety and operational standards.

  3. Load-Bearing Requirements for Heavy Equipment: Supporting the 4,000-pound magnets required significant structural reinforcement. Michuda’s team installed a steel floor structure to safely accommodate the equipment’s weight, ensuring long-term stability and functionality.

KEY PROJECT ELEMENTS

  • Advanced Electrophysiology Equipment: Installation of stereotaxis technology to enhance cardiac treatment capabilities.

  • Specialized RF Shielding: Ensures safe, interference-free operation of sensitive lab equipment.

  • Structural Floor Reinforcement: Provides the necessary support for heavy magnetic equipment, meeting all safety and structural standards.
