PROJECT OUTCOME

Michuda Construction successfully delivered the Hemodialysis Unit Renovation, transforming the existing EEG and Cardiac departments into a state-of-the-art 10-bed hemodialysis unit. This upgrade enhances patient care with advanced facilities, providing a safe and efficient treatment environment that meets all current healthcare standards.

PROJECT SCOPE

Michuda Construction provided Construction Management at Risk services for the creation of a 10-bed Hemodialysis Unit. The project involved demolishing the existing EEG and Cardiac departments and configuring the new space to support hemodialysis treatments, complete with an isolation room for infection control.

The scope of work included:

  • Demolition and Reconfiguration: Removal of existing department fixtures and finishes, preparing the area for the installation of specialized hemodialysis equipment and patient care stations.

  • Installation of Code-Compliant Medical Infrastructure: Each bed station was equipped with medical gas headwalls, bed dockers, and other essential medical utilities.

  • Reverse Osmosis and Central Acid Supply Loops: Installation of a recirculating reverse osmosis water system and acid supply loops to support hemodialysis equipment and maintain sterile conditions.

  • Advanced Patient Amenities: Each bed station was fitted with flat-screen TVs, voice and data outlets, nurse call systems with pillow speakers, and radiant panels to enhance patient comfort.

  • Two-Phase Construction: The project was completed in two phases to minimize disruption to surrounding areas and maintain hospital functionality throughout construction.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS

The Hemodialysis Unit renovation posed specific challenges due to the need for specialized medical infrastructure and infection control requirements. Michuda addressed these with targeted solutions:

  1. Infection Control and Isolation Room Requirements: The unit included an isolation room, necessitating strict infection control protocols. Michuda implemented ICRA/ILSM measures to prevent contamination, particularly during demolition and installation of medical utilities.

  2. Complex Medical Utility Installation: Installing recirculating loops for reverse osmosis and central acid supplies required precision to ensure compliance with healthcare standards. Michuda coordinated closely with MEP contractors to integrate these systems seamlessly with existing infrastructure.

  3. Patient Comfort and Amenities: The unit required amenities like TVs, nurse call systems, and radiant panels at each station. Michuda worked with design and facilities teams to ensure that all patient comfort features were installed efficiently and functioned correctly from the outset.

KEY PROJECT ELEMENTS

  • Advanced Hemodialysis Infrastructure: Medical gas, reverse osmosis, and acid supply loops tailored to hemodialysis needs.

  • Enhanced Patient Experience: Each bed station equipped with entertainment, nurse call systems, and patient comfort features.

  • Phased Construction: Two-phase approach minimized impact on hospital operations and ensured continuous patient care access.
