Project Profile
The new emergency power plant at Advocate Trinity Hospital strengthened the facility’s emergency power infrastructure, reduced risks, and prepared for future capacity growth. Michuda Construction ensured minimal disruptions, maintained patient safety, and completed the project efficiently.
Michuda Construction successfully completed the construction of a new emergency power plant building at Advocate Trinity Hospital. Key components of the project included:
Installation of two 750 KW generators with provisions for a future generator.
Construction of a new paralleling switchboard and day tank fuel delivery system.
Integration of the north and south critical life safety systems, previously independent, to enhance reliability and support future capacity.
Early involvement of the electrical contractor to contribute to design value, minimize disruptions to operations and maintain patient care standards.
Circuit tracing was performed in all potentially affected areas before electrical shutdowns to eliminate errors. All shutdowns were planned well in advance during design meetings.
Implementation of the N+1 theory for manpower during shutdowns for added safety measures.
Construction of an electrical trench across the street to connect to the new power plant, with alternative routes established to maintain ambulance access and deliveries.
