PROJECT OUTCOME

Michuda Construction successfully completed the installation of a state-of-the-art Infant and Child Protection System (ICPS) at Hope Children’s Hospital. This project enhanced safety and security measures, ensuring the well-being of young patients while seamlessly integrating the system into the hospital's existing infrastructure.

PROJECT SCOPE

Michuda Construction delivered Construction Management at Risk services for the implementation of an advanced Infant and Child Protection System (ICPS) at Hope Children’s Hospital. The project included comprehensive upgrades to existing safety and security infrastructure to align with modern standards and operational needs.

Key Elements of the Project:

  • Infection Control Measures: Ensured compliance with strict hospital protocols, including temporary HEPA-filtered enclosures and dust barriers to maintain a sterile environment during construction.

  • Interim Life Safety and Risk Management: Coordinated temporary safety measures and system shutdowns to avoid disruptions to hospital operations.

  • MEP Upgrades: Installed new power distribution, life safety circuits, and integration with the hospital's existing security and fire alarm systems.

  • Infant and Child Protection System Installation: Implemented a delayed egress magnetic locking system and integrated wireless access points, receiver systems, and security upgrades to enhance monitoring capabilities.

  • Custom Electrical Work: Routed in-wall conduit for low-voltage wiring and coordinated connections for wireless and security systems.

  • Infrastructure Modifications: Removed and replaced corridor ceilings to facilitate MEP installations and patched and repaired affected walls, doors, and ceilings.

  • Coordination with Vendors: Collaborated with security integration specialists to install and commission the ICPS system.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS

Occupied Facility Coordination:

  • Challenge: Executing work in a fully operational pediatric care facility without disrupting patient care.

  • Solution: Scheduled construction activities during off-hours and used premium labor shifts to minimize noise and interruptions.

System Integration:

  • Challenge: Seamlessly integrating the ICPS system with existing security and life safety networks.

  • Solution: Worked closely with security and IT teams to ensure compatibility, providing detailed planning and testing for a smooth handover.

Infrastructure Limitations:

  • Challenge: Retrofitting modern technology into an existing hospital infrastructure.

  • Solution: Conducted precise pre-construction assessments and used custom routing for power and low-voltage systems to overcome structural constraints.

VALUE TO THE CLIENT

Michuda Construction’s expertise in healthcare infrastructure enabled the successful delivery of the ICPS project, enhancing the hospital's safety measures without disrupting its critical operations. The implementation of advanced security systems ensures the safety of patients and staff while supporting the hospital's mission to provide exceptional care.
