Project Profile
Michuda Construction has completed nearly $10 million in projects at Kraft’s Chicago Bakery, contributing to the facility’s ongoing operational improvements. These projects have enhanced safety, infrastructure, and efficiency within the plant, demonstrating Michuda’s ability to perform complex construction work in a challenging, high-production environment.

Michuda Construction has provided General Contractor services and self-performed various scopes of work for multiple projects at Kraft’s Chicago Bakery, the world’s largest bakery facility. This work has ranged from small-scale upgrades to complex infrastructure improvements, emphasizing coordination with the plant’s operations to minimize disruption. Key completed projects include:
Concrete Installation for Steam and Condensate Piping: Michuda’s team self-performed the civil scope of this project, including the placement and finishing of concrete to support new steam and condensate piping systems.
Life Safety Project: Installation of approximately 2,000 emergency evacuation signs throughout the plant. The work was performed in active process areas, requiring close coordination with plant staff to maintain production schedules.
Process Line Installation (2011): Involved temporary protection, demolition, plumbing installation, concrete work, and finishing tasks for a new process line. This project required careful scheduling to align with the plant’s limited shutdown windows.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
Minimizing Disruption to Production: With shutdowns rare at the facility, Michuda worked closely with Kraft’s engineering, maintenance, and production teams to schedule work during non-peak times. This included off-hours work and phased execution to avoid delays.
Working in Active Production Areas: The team utilized temporary protection measures to maintain safety standards during projects in occupied process areas, ensuring that the bakery’s operations continued smoothly throughout construction activities.
