PROJECT SCOPE
Michuda Construction provided Construction Management at Risk services for the renovation of the Wellington Parking Garage entrance. This project focused on modernizing and enhancing the entryway experience through structural, architectural, and mechanical upgrades.
The scope of work included:
Demolition of Existing Retaining Wall: Removal of the existing retaining wall to accommodate the construction of a new glass vestibule, creating a modern, visually appealing entrance.
New Concrete Slab Installation: Pouring and finishing of a new concrete slab to support the vestibule structure, ensuring durability and compliance with design specifications.
Glass Vestibule Construction: Installation of a new glass vestibule, enhancing visibility and providing a welcoming entrance while maintaining weather protection and security.
Linear Lighting & Unit Heater Installation: Integration of new linear lighting to brighten the vestibule area, enhancing safety and ambiance. A unit heater was also installed to ensure a comfortable temperature for users.
Epoxy Flooring Application: Application of epoxy flooring on the current walkway to improve durability, slip resistance, and overall aesthetics.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
The renovation of the Wellington Parking Garage entry required strategic planning and targeted solutions to address site-specific challenges:
Occupied Facility Coordination:With the parking garage serving as a primary entry point, maintaining access and safety was paramount. Michuda scheduled construction activities to minimize disruption to users and coordinated closely with hospital staff to ensure safe passage during active work periods.
Structural Modifications:The removal of the existing retaining wall and construction of a new vestibule required precision and careful structural adjustments. Michuda’s team ensured all modifications met structural integrity standards and adhered to the project’s architectural design.
Integration of Mechanical and Electrical Systems:Installing new linear lighting and a unit heater within the glass vestibule involved detailed coordination to ensure seamless integration with the existing building systems, enhancing user experience and operational efficiency.
